Borough President Stringer Hosts a Self Defense Workshop and Discussion on Sexual Assault Prevention

Event Description: The Manhattan Borough President’s Office is hosting a Denim Day self-defense workshop for women and girls age 12 and up. The training will be led by the Center for Anti-Violence Education.

Start Strong Bronx Denim Day Banner Contest
In schools and community programs, with a contest submission deadline of April 13
Event Description: Start Strong Bronx is organizing a Denim Day banner contest for Bronx middle school students. The three winners will be announced at the Denim Day Kick-off Press Conference on April 24, 2012. Prizes have been donated by City Sights (half-day tour of Lower Manhattan for up to 20), Planet Hollywood (lunch for up to 20) and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (20 free admissions).

Event Description: Staff will wear jeans on Denim Day, and the organization is partnering with Wagner College’s Red Riding Hood Project (RRHP) for their Denim Day event’s on Staten Island to educate the public that sexual offenses are family offenses and can be used on orders of protection in family courts.

Wagner College/The Red Riding Hood Project
Event Description: The Red Riding Hood Project (RRHP) will be hosting an all-day Denim Day event on the Wagner campus on April 25th, there will be a Community Resource Fair and then culminating that evening with a Speak Out. The Speak Out will bring together Wagner College Administration, Public Safety, and Residential Education; Wagner College students, and various agencies that are committed to domestic/intimate partner violence, rape, and assault of woman within New York City.

Event Description: Help raise national awareness about sexual assault and send the clear message: “There is no excuse and never an invitation to rape!” Get up early and join Denim Day supporters for a rally outside of a network morning talk show. We plan to start gathering between 5:30 am - 6:00 am to get the position and make our presence felt! Bring friends, family members and co-workers and request they wear jeans! If you are representing an organization or group, bring a banner or sign. We will have Denim Day NYC posters and buttons to distribute.
